About MIPCE-2

The 2nd Malaysian Indigenous Peoples' Conference on Education (MIPCE II) will be a place to meet experts and practitioners on Indigenous education in Malaysia, creating a space to share what is being done as well as to dream and plan together for what it can be.

MIPCE II will provide a unique opportunity to learn from and network with local associations, NGO’s and academics about different approaches to indigenous education, multilingual education and the use of the mother tongue in formal and non-formal settings. There will be case studies of successful programs and inspiring key-note addresses. Evening activities will include cultural performances. Optional field visits are planned after the conference on September 23rd, 2016.

By the end of MIPCE II, we hope to be able to articulate a series of Resolutions as to what indigenous education could look like in Malaysia. Based also on the work done at MIPCE I, MIPCE II will continue to address policy issues in regards to the role of indigenous languages in the Malaysian education system. We hope to identify the basis for further development of a clear policy and action plan, including advocacy and community awareness, and capacity building initiatives at national or sub-regional level.

We believe that the indigenous peoples of Malaysia can unite to petition the government for a more inclusive educational policy which will have a huge impact on their communities.
